MALDIVES HONEYMOON PLANNING GUIDE

Best Times of the Year to Plan a Maldives Honeymoon

Best time of Year to Plan Maldives Honeymoon

Maldives is a great year-round destination, though if you want guaranteed sunshine, it’s best to aim for December to March for your visit. Outside those months, there will be plenty of sunshine, but it will be broken up by rain and cloud. Here’s our month wise breakdown with pros and cons of travel in each.

High Season (Dec–Feb)

Maldives enjoys its best weather.

Expect little rain, low humidity and blue skies.

Christmas and New Year involve huge price hikes and often minimum stays of five days or more.

Shoulder (Mar–Apr)

Great weather continues until the end of April, when temperatures are at their hottest.

The surf season begins in March and continues until October.

Prices jump during Easter.

Low Season (May–Nov)

Storms and rain more likely, but weather warm and resorts at their cheapest.

Prices rise in August for European summer holidays.

Marine life is more varied on the western side of atolls at this time.

How much does a Maldives Honeymoon Cost?

How much does a Maldives honeymoon cost

We are not going to sugarcoat it—the Maldives are very expensive. Generally considered a “luxury” destination dominated by five-star hotels and high end luxe resorts, the prices reflect that Plus once you consider how remote the islands are, and how expensive it is for hotels to source supplies and produce and everything, it’s no surprise that you will end up paying a premium.

For most resorts, you should expect a minimum of $500/night, with many top ends resorts costing much more than that.

Having said all that , there are plenty of ways to get discounts , we emphasis on planning your Maldives honeymoon as early as possible, taking advantage of early purchase offers and packages, and finding off season deals. Our Globaljourneys experts can help in this regard.

Another important aspect to keep in mind is that food at most resorts is going to be expensive, and since each resort is on its own island, your options will be limited to the restaurants on-property.  Almost all of the hotels we offer will include breakfast in the rate, with some having the option for “half board” (breakfast, dinner and non-alcoholic drinks included) and “full board” (all meals and non-alcoholic drinks).

Before booking , we recommend all out guests to check out the meal plans on offer and understand whether going for an all inclusive plan makes better financial sense than option for just a bed & breakfast rate. You can head over to the hotel websites and check the menus on offer along with the pricing to take a better informed decision.

Top Tips for Choosing your Maldives Honeymoon Hotel / Resort.

There are a few important things you need to  understand about the Maldives before you choose where to stay.

1. Each resort is on its own private island – It is  not possible to hop from one island to another since they are so spread out. You have to be  prepared to stay put for the duration of your trip, unless you decide to switch hotels.

2. Hotels are essentially broken down into two categories: “boat transfer” and “plane transfer.”

– Boat transfer hotels will be closer to the main airport, can be reached via boat – this will be arranged by your hotel, and are likely to be less remote (i.e. you’ll likely be able to see other islands in the distance from where you’re staying.)

– Plane transfer hotels will be further away, extremely remote, and may require a seaplane or domestic flight transfer or in some instance both. These resorts  are truly “in the middle of nowhere” and are considered to the most exclusive and hence come with a matching price tag.

Seaplanes will only operatedaylight hours, from 6am – 4pm, so keep that in mind when booking your flights into Male (the capital city where the airport is located.)

For ex: If your international flight would land into Male  at 10pm, You would have to spend the night at an airport hotel and then take the first seaplane the next morning.

3. Rooms are generally broken down into two basic categories as well: “beach villas” and “overwater villas.”

Beach villas are (obviously) on the beach. They tend to be slightly less expensive than overwater villas and are definitely a better option for anyone traveling with young children.
Overwater villas are the huts on stilts you’ve seen in all Maldives photos on the Internet. They tend to be more expensive as they’re  considered more desirable

PRO TIP: We often recommend booking an overwater villa for two nights so that you’re able to get the experience, and then switching to a beach villa for the rest of your trip (or vice versa.) That way you’re able to get two different experiences, while saving a few bucks in the process.

Top Budget Saving Tips for Planning your Maldives Honeymoon

We will be frank with you—the Maldives, unfortunately,  is not a place that caters to budget-conscious travelers. Having said that , there is no reason why you can’t save money while travelling to the Maldives. Here’s a few way to save your money while planning your Maldives Honeymoon

Book During the Off-Season.
During low season, many resorts—even the luxury properties—will deeply discount their prices , in addition to offering upgrades, complimentary meals and transfers, or even throw in free room nights. This works best for those who have the flexibility to travel anytime of the year.

Go local.
From our personal experience we can assure you that the local islands, such as Maafushi, Fulidhoo, and Guraidhoo, will offer the same Maldivian experiences you see in the pictures at a fraction of a cost , this is made possible by staying in local guesthouses , We at GlobalJourneys have been organizing local island trips since the past few years and these work really well for those on a tight budget. Additionally you can also get the resort experience by booking them for one part of your trip , ie like last 2 nights in a resort , remaining time on local islands.

Take advantage of Cheap Airfare.

International flights to the Maldives have got a whole lot cheaper over recent years, partly thanks to a number of low-cost Airlines offering, for example both Indigo and Go Air now offer low cost flights from Major metros across India. You can grab return fares from as low as Rs 20000.

Activities you can enjoy during your Maldives Honeymoon

Things to do during your Maldives Honeymoon

Since each resort is located on its own private island, this means you will basically stay put at the resort for the entire duration of your trip. While this might be a turn-off for anyone who gets bored during beach vacations, with nothing to explore or do beyond chilling by the beach . Beach holidays in Maldives can be as fun as you want them to be.

Maldivian hotels & resorts  are used to having guests stay for a weeks at a time, and most of them are well equipped with plenty of things on offer —be it yoga classes, movie nights, water sports (kayaks, jet skis, paddle boards, kite surfing, diving, snorkeling), cocktail-making classes, wine tastings, spa facilities, sunset cruises, dolphin watching, surf expeditions, etc.

While most hotels include non-motorized water sports complimentary, be prepared to pay additional for other activities.
