22nd Aug 2015 : Delhi Arrival – Overnight Volvo Bus to Manali
Today our great Himalayan adventure begins, we take a comfortable journey in the state of art Volvo buses that make the overnight journey to Manali.
23rd Aug 2015: Manali
Day Highlights: Solang Valleys, Paragliding Session & Old Manali
Day Details: Upon you arrival, you will be met by IndianJourneys Representative and will be introduced to your fellow travellers, we will check in to the hotel & rest till Lunch. Post Lunch we will head to the famous Solang Valley – here one can indulge in all sorts of adventure activities like paragliding , zorbing , ATV Rides , Skiing etc. In the evening we will return to our hotel & take a stroll in the Old Manali market. O/n at Manali
24th Aug 2015: Manali – Trek to Lamadugh Meadows (Appx 4 Hrs)
Day Highlights: Himalayan Style Camping & Trekking, Lamadugh Meadows, Campfire with Music
Day Details: Morning after an early breakfast , we commence our trek to the lovely Lamadugh Meadows – situated at an altitude of 3000 Mtrs, these meadows afford great views of the surrounding mountains & lovely places to camp . Evening will be spent exploring the area , enjoying the sunset & once darkness falls we will enjoy a campfire with some music & masti. O/n at Campsite.
25th Aug 2015: Return to Manali
Day Highlights: Local Manali Sights & Markets, Rest & Relax
Day Details: After Breakfast we break the camp, say good bye to this pristine Himalayan location and trek back to Manali. Upon arrival we check into our hotels & freshen up. Day will be at leisure to catch up on some rest, before we begin our epic jeep ride to the magical land of Ladakh. O/n Manali.
26th Aug 2015: Manali to Keylong (Approx 120 Kms / 6 hrs)
Day Highlights: Journey on Famed Manali – Leh Road, Rohtang Pass, Keylong Village
Day Details: Buckle up for the most precious trip of your life time. Stopover in sapphire lakes, rusty terrains, peaceful outbacks and almost anywhere your heart wants to. This is not where your burdens will dare to follow you; this is where you dig out your fantasy and put it straight into reality. So, let the magic of marooned monastery, independence and soft breeze, swirl up your senses for the good. Early morning we hop on to our jeeps and begin the journey to Leh – crossing over the lush & green kullu valley via rohtang pass , we enter the stark & desolate landscapes of Ladakh, here towering mountains , roaring rivers & deep gorges paint a larger than life picture & make you wonder at the magnificience of nature. Upon reaching Keylong we will check in to the hotel , later in the evening we will visit the nearby monastery & explore the quaint little town of Keylong. O/n at Keylong
27th Aug 2015: Keylong to Leh ( Approx 300 Kms / 9 Hrs )
Day Highlights: Baralacha La & Tanglang La Passes, Gata Loops, Morey Plains & Pang Wind Erosion Areas.
Day Details: Today will be a long day , we will start early in the morning and cross over the baralach la pass , with a stopover at Suraj Tal for some photo ops. Later we will ascend the Gata Loops & arrive at Pang , here onwards we will travel for 50 Kms on the highest altitude plains on this planet – the Morey Plains , this is where sheer desolation hits you as you see miles upon miles of flat plains at such altitude with no sign of any habitation , with mountains of various shades of blue , purple , red , it almost seems as if you have transcended to another planet. Once this leg of the journey finishes, we will begin our ascent to Tanglang La (5360 Mtrs) – the highest motorable pass on this road , from the top of this pass you can see all the way to Keylong & Leh. The descent from this pass will mark the final leg of our journey to Leh , we will enter the plains of Upshi from where we have the company of Indus river flowing right next to the road uptil Leh. Upon arrival we will check in to the hotel , freshen up & have a ladakhi meal for the first time . O/n Leh.
28th Aug 2015: Explore Leh Sights
Day Highlights: Old Leh Market , Hemis Monastery , 3 Idiots School Campus , Shey Palace.
Day Details: After a leisurely breakfast, today we will drive to visit Hemis Monastery situated 45km west of Leh; Hemis is the largest and the wealthiest monastery in Ladakh. From Hemis, you are driven back taking the same route to visit Thiksey Monastery, located on a hill-lock with formidable views of the Indus valley. Thiksey is especially noteworthy for its gigantic seated statue of the Maitreya and is also known for its (Dukhang) assembly hall which houses hundreds of rectangular prayer books, stacked between wooden covers and bound in silk. After that we continue to drive through series of chortens to visit Shey Palace the former summer palace of the King of Ladakh. 3 Idiots School Campus Sindhu Darshan visit. Later in the evening we return to our hotel & retire to our beds to prepare for another exciting excursion on the morrow.
29th Aug 2015: Day Excursion to Pangong Lake (Appx 150 Kms / 5 Hrs One Way)
Day Highlights: Visit to Pangong Lake
Day Details: After an early breakfast leave for Pangong Tso – Tibetan for “ long, narrow, enchanted lake", is a High Altitude Himalayan Lake situated at a height of about 4,350 m. It is 134 km long and extends from India to Tibet. Most of the journey is through a rough and dramatically scenic mountain road. The road crosses the villages of Shey and Gya and traverses the Changla pass. Road down from Changla Pass leads through Tangste and other smaller villages, crossing a stream called Pagal Naala also known as “The Crazy Stream”. The lake acts as an important breeding ground for a variety of birds including a number of migratory birds. During summer, the Bar-headed goose and Brahmini ducks are commonly seen here. The region around the lake supports a number of species of wildlife including the kiang and the Marmot. The Turquiose blue waters of the lake with the ever changing landscapes give this place a magical feeling, and any trip to Ladakh is incomplete without a visit to this place. 30th Aug 2015: Leh to Nubra Valley (Approx 120 Kms / 5 Hrs)
Day Highlights: Khardungla Pass – Highest Motorable Road, Khardung Village , Shyok River , Nubra Sand Dunes
Day Details: Today morning we will head north of Leh – to another exciting part of thi region , The Nubra Valley - The deep valleys of the Shyok and Nubra Rivers offer tremendous yet accessible scenery with green oasis villages surrounded by thrillingly stark scree slopes, boulder fields and harsh arid mountains. Like the rest of the Tibetan Plateau, Nubra is a high altitude cold desert with rare precipitation and scant vegetation except along river beds. The villages are irrigated and fertile, producing wheat, barley, peas, mustard and a variety of fruits and nuts, including blood apples, walnuts, apricots and even a few almond trees. Upon arrival we will check into our organic guesthouse & later on visit the famous sand dunes & observe the double humped Bactrian camels of this region. Evening will be free to roam the markets of Diskit , the district headquarters. O/n Hunder.
31st Aug 2015: Nubra Exploration – Back to Leh
Day Highlights: Diskit Monastery, Panamik Hot Springs , Karakoram Range
Day Details: Today early morning we will set out to explore the many magical sights this region has to offer , first up we will visit the Diskit Monastery - known as Diskit Gompa is the oldest and largest Buddhist monastery in the Nubra Valley of Ladakh belonging to the Gelugpa (Yellow Hat) sect of Tibetan Buddhism. It was founded by Changzem Tserab Zangpo, a disciple of Tsong Khapa, founder of Gelugpa, in the 14th century. Later on we will cross the shyok river and enter the Karakoram Range , here we will continue on to Panamik – the last civilian village that we are allowed to visit . Later on we return to Leh via Khardung La. O/n Leh.
1st Sept 2015: Leh – Rafting on Indus.
Day Highlights: Rafting on Indus, Army Hall of Fame & Magnetic Hill
Day Details: Rise & Shine early for another magnificient experience in Ladakh , today we will head out for rafting on the Indus - This is one of the most dramatic river canyons in the world. We begin our downstream journey with small rapids, drifting through spectacular mountain backdrops and alongside remote Ladakhi villages. The whitewater becomes progressively more difficult as we move downstream. We’ll navigate several narrow Class III and IV mini gorges; and will scout at least one section aptly named “The Pinch!“ The scenery is spectacular, with massive cliffs opening up to lush side valleys, waterfalls streaming directly out of the canyon walls, and glimpses of glaciated mountaintops in the distance. After we are done with this adrenaline rush, we will gather on and continue on to see the Army hall of fame, showcasing many aspects of the Armies role in this region and the part it has played in the various wars with neighbouring countries. We will also visit the Magnetic, said to have a strong gravitational pull towards any metallic objects , it pull them towards itself. We return to the hotel in evening. O/n at Leh
2nd Sept 2015: Leh – Cycling on Khardungla
Day Highlights: Cycling on Highest Motorable Road, Evening at Leh Palace , Sunset at Shanti Stupa , Farewell Dinner
Day Details: Today we will have yet another adrenaline pumping activity, after breakfast , we will take our hired cycles on jeeps right till the top of Khardungla – the highest motorable road in the world , from here we will mount our cycles and let gravity take care of the rest as we cycle down the highest road on this planet , affording magnificent views of the mountain & thrills aplenty with its curves & gradients . After we finish the cycling , we roam the markets of Leh & head to Leh palace for a panoramic view of the Leh City , before continuing onto Shanti Stupa – the Japanese Peace Pagoda for a splendid sunset . Once night falls we will gather at a local restaurant for a farewell dinner & bid adieu to our final night in this magical land.
3rd Sept 2015: Leh Departure
Morning we transfer to the Airport in Time for onward connection. Trip Ends.
